I say support the local places over the big box stores if you can get a chance. but best to grow a garden anyway you can.

Hah, i love this guy. lol

  5. Buying this stuff is fine in your first or second year of planting but if you really want to make a difference, skip the big box stores and buy your plans locally. Farmers markets are awesome and more often then not they will have a larger selection with better pricing year round. As well as better over all help and advice on how to plant and care for your garden.

  6. Great video!!

  7. Bonnie hasn’t “been bought out” as you put it. They simply buy seeds that are patented by Seminis, which is not in the business of genetic modification. If you’re an extreme nut job that fears supporting Monsanto at all, well then stop eating any commercially produced food(organic/GM or not) and wearing cotton is all I gotta say ’cause that’s what it will take

  8. Wrong. Bonnie buys seeds from Seminis. It is a separate company with it’s own products / plant varieties and targets the home grower. Monsanto simply purchased the company and so now they own it on paper. Big woopty-doo. And even Monsanto does more than GMO just as PepsiCo does more than just soda.(in fact, they used to own most Taco Bell stores until recently) You’re forgetting something else. There’s only 6 GMO plants/seeds approved by the FDA for marketing in the US so that narrows it down

  9. “That is really the best way to save money on plants” ummm…. not really. There is no way to produce say, “Celebrity” (an F1 hybrid by Bonnie) tomatoes by planting seeds you get from the plant. That goes for any F1 hybrid, which is a plant that is produced by crossing 2 different pure varieties. There is also no way to ensure that an heirloom variety in your garden wasn’t cross pollinated by another variety. In either case, you have lost what you’re paying for so you’ve saved nothing

  10. is this the same for east coast

I read an article the other stating otherwise. That Bonnie in fact buys seed from Monsanto companies. wont let me add it just google bonnie sells monsanto seeds you will find it. looks like Bonnie has been bought out too. :(

  14. Great video. Do you buy only organic plants and seeds?

  15. I’m just curious, do you save any of your own seeds? That is really the best way to save money on plants.

I’ve had one delay after another, closing on buying a house..but couldn’t pass up the deal so… I got in on the sale and planted some berry bushes, herbs, etc… I figure if it all falls apart at least someone will get some food out of the deal.

  17. Such a wealth of information!

  18. Used this info to buy my starts and planted thanks John!

  19. How do i know if my local hd will have a spring black friday, they haven’t started carrying vegetable plants yet. Is this an advertised sale?

  20. hey john, do you harvest your own seeds for the following spring? i would reall learn how to do this properly. thanks

  21. Isn’t Bonnie the ones that toss out their plants in the garbage after a certain date verses donating them or discounting them???

  22. John the kids and I really love your show, and we really loved the Mini doing the cameo in the backgroud too. ;) When we are out and about we do Mini Alerts so we had a good laugh as we were attentively taking in all your tips. <3 your videos. We are working on our garden, growing edibles. Thanks so much.

  23. I am so happy I found you! What a fun video! Thanks for showing us the deals and the tips about the seeds. One thing I love about this video is that your hair is messy! Bed head rocks – makes you a real person. While I am and have been a huge farmer’s market shopper, this year, YOU have motivated me to get our garden up and going! I found a place that has azomite fairly close to me so I will get that this weekend. I’m going to whip my garden into shape! Thanks again for everything!

  24. Thanks John for waking up so early to make this video. I appreciate the work you put in to every video to help us learn.

  25. GMO Ms. Esposito. GMO. IKf it is not Organic, it is GMO, EVEN IF it says it is not. The USDA is the only one that can make that determination.
