Raised vegetable garden beds are becoming a fast trending method for gardening today and probably even in the future simply because of all the benefits that it offers. Try imagining a world where in we can plant even in the most barren of lands or a world where in we can grow plants inside buildings and even on rooftops using this type of gardening method. Who knows, this might even resolve food shortages in some parts of the world. Which is why, I would like to share my own experience in building raised vegetable garden beds with the intent that we pass it on to the next generation.There are several things that we need to consider when constructing your own raised vegetable garden beds:I. LocationThe location of where you build your garden beds is very important because first of all, garden beds are very hard to move around. You would have to disassemble the entire frame just to move it somewhere else. Secondly, your garden beds needs to be located where it can receive enough sunlight, but not too much, so you need to place it where it can receive sunlight in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Also, it needs to be in a place where it will be protected from bad weather. The ideal location for it would be on the east side of your house where the sun rises that way your plants will be shaded in the afternoon.II. MaterialsIf you are planning to use wood then the most suitable type would be Cedar and Redwood, both have natural resistance to rot and insects, or you can also use recycled wood like Trex, which is made from recycled materials like sawdust, wood, plastic, etc., which makes it more affordable than the other two. You can also use materials that you can find around you such as used bricks, blocks, boulders, or other things to save money. Use your innovative ideas!III. Dimensions and SpacingThe most preferred dimension of the sections of the garden beds will really depend on you. The dimensions should be measured in a way where in it will be convenient for you.
